In 1936, thirteen local farmers recognized the need for electricity in rural Henry County and the surrounding areas. These farmers became the initial board members of the Henry County Rural Electric Membership Corporation (Henry County REMC).
Henry County REMC, a non-profit electric cooperative, holds a steadfast commitment to its members. With a focus on long-term stability and delivering value, the cooperative provides electricity to approximately 7,800 members in portions of eight counties and maintains 1,230 miles of power lines. Its mission is clear: to supply reliable, safe, and cost-competitive electrical service to enhance the lives of its members and the communities it serves. The company measures success by the satisfaction of its members, making their well-being its ultimate profit.
Henry County REMC’s workforce is comprised of individuals who, in many cases, began as customers. Some join the company with a high school diploma and receive comprehensive training to equip them for their roles. The organization operates a four-year apprenticeship program specifically designed for line workers. Certain skilled positions within the company, such as technology, accounting, and management, require specialized certifications or degrees.
“We have 35 employees who are passionate about their jobs and work hard each day to provide excellent service to our members,” noted Melissa True, Henry County REMC’s CEO.
Henry County REMC offers a comprehensive benefits package for its employees, including:
- 401K and pension plans for retirement savings and security
