Education can steer you in various directions. Many times, those directions require you to leave home. In Mackenzie Jackson’s case, her education sent her around the world. She studied at Indiana University in Bloomington and abroad in Spain. Her career started in Maine, but after a while her family roots drew her back to Henry County.
Now, Mackenzie works as the Assistant Director at the New Castle Career Center. She is responsible for helping with both the Career Center and Early College programs. Along with the student programs, she also plans professional development opportunities for staff members.
Mackenzie has many responsibilities within her job to help students succeed. She recruits for the 18 career programs and organizes student visits. Providing emotional support for current students and working closely with the eight sending high schools also falls within her realm.
“I really enjoy helping and supporting the students in Henry County and surrounding counties,” Mackenzie explained. “I love seeing a healthy community where young people can thrive.”
Mackenzie enjoys being back home where she can raise her children near both sets of their grandparents, and in a community where she knows the residents. It’s reassuring to her to have long-standing relationships with teachers, health care providers, and public officials.
“If you’re looking to return to Henry County, what’s stopping you?” Mackenzie added. “Get involved and rejoin the community!”
