New Castle Henry County Economic Development (EDC) has recently secured $400,000 in grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through a competitive grant application process.
The funding is through the US EPA Brownfields Program and is earmarked to support the redevelopment of brownfields that have contamination or suspected contamination with either hazardous or petroleum substances. The efforts of the grant are to develop a community-wide inventory of brownfield sites, prioritize those sites for environmental assessments, conduct appropriate assessments, and conduct remedial planning to prepare sites for redevelopment.
These efforts will assist commercial properties with sale and reuse of abandoned or vacant properties that have contamination or suspected contamination. Property owners or buyers can benefit by receiving grant funding to pay for the necessary protection of the Phase I and Phase II environmental assessment reports.
