Meet the Pettys: Henry County MakeMyMove’s Newest Residents

The Pettys who recently moved to Henry County, Indiana

Henry County, Indiana, is a great place to live, with a sense of community, a low cost of living, and affordable housing. In general, Indiana is one of the top ten most affordable states to live in America, one of the states remote workers are seeking to live in.

Named the “Place to Play” and “Where Basketball Lives,” Henry County is known for its basketball history, state and local parks, community programs and activities, art associations, concerts, festivals, sports, and more. Through a program called MakeMyMove, remote workers can choose to relocate to Henry County from anywhere outside of Indiana. Plus, they get incentives for doing so!

Sam and Melody Petty are the newest Henry County MakeMyMove program recipients and residents of New Castle. Through MakeMyMove, approved applicants connect with locals and moving services to help plan the relocation to their chosen new community. The Pettys connected with the New Castle-Henry County Economic Development Corporation to assist them with their move.

“Our experience with MakeMyMove and New Castle-Henry County Economic Development Corporation was wonderful. We are thankful to everyone associated with the program who welcomed us and made us feel right at home,” said Melody Petty. “The variety of benefits the program offers tremendously helped us with our relocation.”

Each community offers incentives to its movers. Henry County’s MakeMyMove total incentive package is valued at $7,800 and includes cash for relocation, internet, and community memberships. Specific eligibility requirements exist to be a Henry County MakeMyMove participant. For example, movers must live outside Indiana and be employed full-time and willing to relocate or self-employed and able to relocate. The Pettys and their three German Shepherds moved to New Castle from Texas, and Sam relocated for his position with the New Lisbon Telephone Company.

The Pettys believe that the most rewarding aspect about living in Henry County is the friendliness of the people. “We enjoy the friendly people we have had the pleasure of meeting and the many businesses and dining experiences New Castle and our neighboring towns in Henry County have to offer. We consider ourselves blessed to be a part of such a great community,” Melody shared.
